North: Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Sapa
October to April is dry and comfortable, though December to February can feel cold, especially in the mountains. May to September is hot and humid with heavy rain, and summer storms can cancel Ha Long Bay cruises.
Centre: Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An
February to August brings sunshine and beach weather. September to December is the rainy and typhoon season, when Hoi An’s old town can flood. If you travel then, keep a day or two free in your plans.
South: Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and Phu Quoc
The south is warm all year. December to April is the dry season and the best time for Phu Quoc’s beaches. From May to November there are short, heavy showers most afternoons, but travel is still easy and prices are lower.
When to apply for your visa
- Apply two to four weeks before you fly. Your e-Visa is valid from the entry date you choose, so applying early does not shorten your stay.
- Around Tết (Lunar New Year, 6 February 2027) government offices close for about a week. Apply well before the holiday.
- Peak season from December to April is busiest. Book flights and hotels early too.
